Tall annulate palm , thickened base . Leaves pinnatisect ; leaflet numerous , linear - lanceolate ; petioles very stout . Spadix interfliar , simple panicled , with flexuous branched ; branches bear scattered female flowers , often between 2 male flowers towards their bases and male only above male flower small sepals ; 3 petals . Female flowers large ovoid sepals 3 ; petals 3 . Fruit ovoid , 1 seeded drupe .
