Ixora coccinea L.

Shrubs or small trees . Leaves opposite , rarely ternate , usually thick ; stipules interpetiolar . Flowers usually 4 - ( rarely 5 ) merous , in terminal , trichotomously branched , often corymbose cymes ; bracts usually leaf - like , coriaeceous ; bracteoles 2 . Calyx tube ovoid ; limb short , 4 - rarely 5 lobed , the lobes persistent . Corolla hypocrateriform ; tube long , slender ; lobes 4 ( rarely 5 ) , twisted in bud , spreading or reflexed in flower . Fruit globose or didymous with 2 plano - convex or ventrally concave coriaeceous pyrenes .
